Things aren’t really any less tumultuous at Warner Bros. Discovery, with the company still looking for a Kevin Feige type to lead the production of DC superhero films and the future head of DC Films, Walter Hamada, is leaving the company in the second Black Adam is in theaters (that is, Friday), but James Gunn and Matt Reeves have ideas for what they think Warner Bros. Discovery should do now: let them make more DC superhero movies!
This comes from an extensive Hollywood reporter part on the future of Warner’s DC film company, mentioning that Gunn is reportedly in talks with WBD about making “a mystery film” and possibly more than one of them — and, to be clear, that means a movie that for us is a mystery, not a whodunit thing. THR says Gunn would make a second season peacekeeper before he did anything mystery movie is, but that’s all we know.
As for Reeves, he has his . already the batter Spin-off about Penguin by Colin Farrell in the works for HBO Max, THR says he is working on a sequel to the batter and wants to make additional movies, especially movies, says THR-about other Batman villains. The ones specifically mentioned are Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg, although those may just be examples of villains and not necessarily characters that will get spin-off movies. Anyway, the projects are “in the very early stages of pregnancy”. Scarecrow you may know from the Christopher Nolan movies and Clayface you may know from Batman: the animated seriesbut Professor Pyg is a newer villain who is pretty boring, so maybe a big Matt Reeves movie would do what Grant Morrison’s comics never could and make him really cool.
But with Gunn and Reeves berating the fun guys they want to make movies about, Warner Bros. Discovery, desperate with his arms, yells, “Don’t you like Superman?! Anyone want to make a movie with Henry Cavill’s Superman?!” and literally everyone is like “lol no.” Actually we’re funny: WBD really wants to do something with Superman, and it wants Henry Cavill to come back to play himbut Dwayne Johnson seems to be the only person with a pitch for making a Superman movie – and his pitch is “what if I fight Superman?”
Dwayne Johnson has pitched a movie where Black Adam fights Superman for a while, to the extent that there are rumors that Superman even appears in Johnson’s Black Adam movie – rumors which, if true, may or may not be covered casually by a paragraph in this Hollywood reporter that describes how Johnson may or may not have been allowed to feature Superman in the film. Hypothetical. There’s just no way of knowing if Superman is in the movie. No possible way. We’ll just never know.
For now, it looks like it’s just a matter of waiting for Warner Bros. Discovery has its own mess, which it is supposed to do in the end, right?
