Tom Hanks Has Wondered Why Tim Allen Wasn’t Asked to Voice Buzz light year

When the film was announced, many assumed that Allen would voice the character. However, it was revealed that Chris Evans would be doing this.

Evans defended his casting, clarifying that the film was not based on the toy, but on the real-life astronaut who inspired the toy in the Pixar universe. Meanwhile, director Angus MacLane described the decision as “deliberate”.

When Woody voice actor Hanks, who plays in Baz Luhrmann’s Elviswas asked if it was “strange to face a Buzz Lightyear movie in the cinema,” he told CinemaBlend: “What do you think? I actually wanted to go up against Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand.”

When it was pointed out that it was Evans in the part, he said, “Yeah, yeah, I know.”

He continued: “Here’s the thing: I want to go back to the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do and, go to a movie with [Allen] – I look forward.”

Hanks and Allen have remained friends since they first voiced the characters in the first Toy Story movie, which was released in 1995. They returned for three sequels in 1999, 2010, and 2019.
