Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has avoided a 10-year prison sentence after failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to California with his wife.

Petty, 44, will instead be forced to stay at his multi-million dollar home in Calabasas for the next year and face a $55,000 fine.

Petty, who married Minaj, 39, in 2019, pleaded guilty in September to a federal count of failing to register as a sex offender.

While seeking a maximum 10-year prison term with lifelong supervised release, he was sentenced Wednesday to just one year of house arrest and three years of probation, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Petty was convicted in 1995 of attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in the first degree, for which he was sentenced to four years in prison.

In New York State, he is considered a level two offender, which means he is considered a “moderate risk of recurrence.”

Petty started dating Minaj in 2018 and they tied the knot a year later and moved to California.

Petty was apprehended by the Beverly Hills Police Department in November 2019 and discovered that he was a registered sex offender in New York, although he had not registered in California when he moved, which he is required to do.

Petty pleaded guilty at the time, but his questioning was postponed several times before the verdict was handed down.

Prosecutors advised 15 months in prison and five years of supervised release, and no house arrest, as he lives with Minaj in a gated community in Calabasas, which they said was not much of a “punishment.”

The judge ultimately disagreed and sentenced him to one year of house arrest, plus three years of probation and a $55,000 fine.

Petty was also in legal trouble in August when Jennifer Hough, Petty’s alleged rape victim, filed a lawsuit against both him and Minaj.

Hough claimed that both Minaj and Petty tried to force her to recant her rape charges, and they even offered her $500,000 to do so.

She also accused them of inflicting emotional distress, although she voluntarily dropped the lawsuit against Minaj.

“The case against Nicki has been voluntarily dropped. The case against Kenneth Petty is still pending. Stay tuned!” Hough’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn said.

Neither Petty nor Minaj have commented on the conviction.
