Former Reddit engineer Josh Wardle conceived the game in 2021 as a private practice for him and his word game-loving partner. It eventually became a staple of their WhatsApp messaging family, and then Wardle began to suspect he might have something special enough to merit a wider release.
So special, in fact, that the New York Times bought it from him in early 2022. Hundreds of thousands of people now play it every day.

A wordle a day is all well and good, but sometimes it just isn’t enough. While you could once play through the entire archive of puzzles from the past, the archive has been removed at the request of the New York Times, according to the site.

Is wordle get harder?
If you have found wordle too easy, there is a hard mode that you can enable to give yourself more challenge. But unless you activate this mode, we can assure you that: wordle doesn’t get any harder. (The past week or so has certainly served up some real doozies, though, so don’t beat yourself up too much if you’ve broken your streak.)

The whole point of wordle is that everyone solves the same puzzle, with the same answer, no matter where you are in the world. Occasionally, however, the puzzle game accepts two different correct solutions on the same day, apparently in conflict with wordle law.
This deviation is due to changes in the New York Times started making after it was acquired wordle earlier this year, removing obscure or potentially sensitive words from the original list Wardle had compiled.
